Conditions we treat

At Meyer Physio, we assess and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports-related conditions affecting the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

We have a particular interest in persistent or complex problems, including injuries that have not improved as expected, recurrent symptoms and conditions where the diagnosis or next stage of treatment remains unclear.

Assessment is based on your clinical history and physical examination, with diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound used where clinically appropriate.

Shoulder Conditions

We assess and manage:

  • Rotator cuff-related shoulder pain
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy and tears
  • Subacromial pain and bursitis
  • Calcific tendinopathy
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Long head of biceps tendon disorders
  • Shoulder instability and traumatic injuries
  • Acromioclavicular (AC) joint pain and osteoarthritis
  • Overhead and throwing-related shoulder injuries
  • Persistent shoulder pain
  • Post-operative shoulder rehabilitation

Where appropriate, assessment can be complemented by diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided treatment.

Elbow Conditions

We assess:

  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis or lateral elbow tendinopathy)
  • Golfer’s elbow (medial elbow tendinopathy)
  • Distal biceps and triceps tendon problems
  • Ligament injuries
  • Elbow osteoarthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Ulnar nerve-related symptoms
  • Sports and overload-related elbow pain

Wrist & Hand Conditions

Conditions commonly assessed include:

  • De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Thumb osteoarthritis
  • Thumb ligament injuries, including suspected Stener lesions
  • Tendon injuries and tenosynovitis
  • Mallet finger
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Persistent wrist pain
  • Suspected TFCC injuries

Where ultrasound cannot adequately assess the suspected pathology, further imaging or specialist referral may be recommended.

Lower Limb Conditions

Hip & Lateral Hip Pain

We assess and manage:

  • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
  • Gluteal tendinopathy
  • Hip osteoarthritis
  • Hip stiffness and loss of function
  • Iliopsoas-related pain
  • Proximal hamstring tendinopathy
  • Sports-related hip and groin pain
  • Suspected femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
  • Persistent hip pain

Some hip conditions, including suspected labral pathology and intra-articular disorders, may require X-ray or MRI rather than ultrasound. We will advise you when further investigation is appropriate.

Knee Conditions

We commonly see patients with:

  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Persistent or recurrent knee pain
  • Knee joint effusions and swelling
  • Patellofemoral pain
  • Patellar and quadriceps tendinopathy
  • Baker’s cysts
  • Meniscal-related symptoms
  • Collateral ligament injuries
  • Suspected cruciate ligament injuries
  • Sports-related knee injuries
  • Post-operative knee rehabilitation

Treatment is based on the underlying clinical problem rather than imaging findings alone.

Lower Leg, Ankle & Foot Conditions

We assess and manage:

  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Achilles tendon tears and injuries
  • Tibialis posterior tendinopathy
  • Peroneal tendon disorders
  • Calf muscle injuries, including “tennis leg”
  • Ankle sprains and instability
  • Ankle osteoarthritis
  • Plantar fasciitis / plantar heel pain
  • Morton’s neuroma
  • Ankle and foot bursitis
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Sports and running-related lower-limb problems

Tendon & Sports Injuries

We have extensive experience assessing and managing tendon and sports-related problems, including:

  • Acute muscle and tendon injuries
  • Chronic tendinopathy
  • Recurrent muscle strains
  • Ligament sprains
  • Overuse and training-related injuries
  • Running-related injuries
  • Persistent sports injuries
  • Return-to-sport rehabilitation

Our aim is not simply to settle symptoms, but to establish the likely cause of the problem and develop a structured plan for recovery and return to activity.

Osteoarthritis & Persistent Joint Pain

We regularly assess patients with knee, hip, shoulder, ankle and other peripheral joint osteoarthritis.

Management may include education, exercise and rehabilitation, activity modification and discussion of appropriate treatment options.

Where clinically indicated, we can also discuss ultrasound-guided injection treatments as part of a wider management plan.

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound can be used as an extension of the clinical assessment when it is likely to help answer a specific clinical question.

We provide ultrasound assessment of peripheral musculoskeletal structures, including the:

  • Shoulder
  • Elbow
  • Wrist and hand
  • Hip and lateral hip
  • Knee
  • Ankle and foot
  • Muscles and tendons

Ultrasound is particularly useful for assessing many tendon, muscle, ligament, bursal and superficial joint abnormalities.

It is not the appropriate imaging investigation for every musculoskeletal condition. Where X-ray, MRI or medical assessment would be more appropriate, we will advise you accordingly.

Treatment Options

Following assessment, your treatment plan may include:

Not every patient requires imaging or an injection. Treatment recommendations are based on your clinical presentation, diagnosis, goals and the available evidence.

Not Sure Whether We Treat Your Condition?

Musculoskeletal problems do not always fit neatly into a diagnosis.

If you have persistent pain, an injury that is not recovering as expected, or you have been given conflicting advice about what is causing your symptoms, we can assess the problem and help determine the most appropriate next step.

Meyer Physio is based in Baker Street, Weybridge, Surrey and accepts both self-referrals and referrals from healthcare professionals.
